1950 BENTLEY MKVI PARK WARD 6 LIGHT SPORTS SALOON.
The great engineer W.O.Bentley designed and built superb motor cars at Cricklewood from 1921, having enormous success on the racetrack. In 1931 Rolls Royce acquired control of Bentley Motors and proceeded to build Bentleys at Derby from 1933 until production ceased at the beginning of the war, Rolls publicity at the time described their Bentleys as "the silent sports car", the general public called it "the Rolls Bentley" from 1947, all Bentleys have been built at Crewe, thus Bentleys fall into three categories: Cricklewood (vintage) Derby (pre war) and Crewe (post war).
This Crewe built Bentley has an extremely rare 4 door all aluminium coach built "Park Ward" sports saloon body and was built for a Manchester textile company , she the only example of a "Park Ward" aluminium coach built Bentley Mk VI built to this design , finished in Shell Grey metallic over Masons Black with Red St James hide interior there are a number of very interesting Factory features , including an electric rear window blind , electric front windows (very rare for 1950) steel sun roof and two cocktail cabinets , Brandy in the drivers door and Whisky in the passenger door , all of the cars woodwork is Macassar Ebony Veneer which is very rare indeed and is in superb condition , the small tools are complete and found inside the glove box , the large tools are in the boot and even all the tools inside the engine bay are there along with the original torch , even the original valve radio still works .
The restoration work took place during the 1980's and was acquired by the previous owner in August 1992 , the front suspension and steering were re-built in 1993, the whole car is a sheer delight to drive and looks as if it's doing 100 mph standing still , this is a real pleasure for me to offer this extremely rare and desirable coach built Bentley for sale , since owning this car i have carried out the following work , the Shell grey has been repainted and some areas on the Masons black also repainted , the whole of the underside has been striped down to bare metal and etch primed and painted two pack gloss black , the engine bay has been fully striped of all ancillaries and also painted gloss black , all new gaskets fitted , carbs overhauled , starter motor rebuilt , all of the engine bay's nickel pipe work and been re-nickol plated , rear bumper and over riders re-chromed , some of the wood work has been sent off and re-polished and a full service carried out , there has been over £20,000 spent on the detailing work , the car is now in stunning condition with a lovely history file including the original Buff and Green continuation Log Books and many old Mot's and including the Factory Build Sheet , it is of course , a numbers matching car and is unique !
