Designed in the mid 1950’s and introduced to the world in March 1957 at the Salon International de l’Auto exhibition in Geneva the Maserati 3500GT was a car in the classic style of sporting Grand Touring cars. In standard form the straight six twin cam engine developed 220BHP at 5500rpm. Standard kerb weight 1465Kg Available in either convertible or coupe form with bodies either by Touring of Milan or Allemano two of the most famous Italian coachbuilders of the period. In total only 2226 were produced. The car offered here was constructed circa 1960/61 with Superleggera coupe body by Touring of Milan . Little is known of its history (currently being researched) but it was lightly prepared for competition in the late 80’s the Engine was rebuilt to Race specification and sports a twin plug cylinder head and triple 42 DCOE carburettors. Suspension mods were carried out to improve handling . Some trim was removed and plexiglass side windows fitted. There is also a lightweight half cage fitted. Sports seats by ‘Mira Flores’ replace the originals.Although prepared we do not believe the car was ever used in competion and remained as part of a private collection. Dry stored the car and body are in superb condition and only some light re-commissioning will be required to bring the car back to use. The car has a current road registration papers and could be an ideal basis for a historic race or rally entrant. Now available to the market for the first time in over 30 years this is a rare opportunity to purchase one of the true great sports cars ever produced.
