1971 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible. As a #1- quality car finished in its original color combination of Saturn Gold (977) over White (53) this car represents the highest quality 71’ 442 available. Life started for this 442 in GM’s Lansing, Michigan Factory and was originally delivered to a California Dealer as one of only 1,304 produced for 1971. Then sold new with the following options: Three speed Hydra-Matic 400 Transmission, Hurst Dual-Gate Shifter, 3.23 Posi-trac Rear Axle, and Heavy Duty Rally Suspension, Sport Mirrors, (W25) Fiberglass Hood, Bucket Seats, Power Windows, Power Locks, and many more. While exact ownership history is not fully known, we do know that in the 1990’s the car was discovered by Anthony Soldano, an avid muscle car enthusiast and body shop owner. During his ownership and over the course of several years, a thorough and very correct restoration was completed, finished in 2002. During the restoration the car was completely disassembled, with every last nut and bolt paid special attention to, culminating into a very impressive car when completed. The engine, transmission, and running gear received a complete rebuild utilizing the original parts and restoring them to a very high standard. The chassis, body, and related bits were taken to bare metal, as a dry CA car to begin with this was a very rust free car and it is believed that over 95% of all the metal is factory sheet metal. The finish was completed to a very high standard with a correct and original color combination, with brand new bright-work to accompany it. The interior received just as much attention, total refurbishment, with reupholstered seats, new carpets and other interior appointments, and lastly fitted with a new top. Soon after the restoration was completed the car was acquired by esteemed collector John Hendricks, founder of the Gateway Auto Museum, where the car resided up until just recently when the car changed ownership. During it’s time at the Gateway Museum, this exact 442 was featured in the book “The Performing Art of the American Automobile”, written by Jonathan Stein and visually captured by famous automotive photographer Michael Furman. Today the car represents a #1- quality car, it shows signs of both being respectfully enjoyed and meticulously cared for. With 86,958 original miles on the clock, and a 9 year old restoration, this car is impressive. All mechanical systems perform very well with no known issues whatsoever; cleanliness in the engine bay is of show quality and remains very correct. The interior is very clean throughout with the armrests showing very minor wear, otherwise no known issues with all interior trim pieces clean and correct. All electrical switches, lights, toggles, radio and gauges are in correct working order. The top is flawless and looks new. All rubber molding and trim pieces are in excellent condition as are the tires. The paint still retains its show quality luster with very minor hints of being driven as evident by some very minor stone chips on the front left rocker, otherwise no other blemishes to be disclosed. The undercarriage is consistent with the rest of the car as are the wheel wells and trunk. Both the trunk and engine bay show correct stickers and appointments of originality. The door, trunk, and hood fitment are superb. All glass is in excellent condition and fade/crack free. All things considered this is one very impressive 71’ Oldsmobile 442 Convertible that would make an excellent show car or contribution to any serious collection and represents the very best the muscle car era has to offer. The sale will include an original owner’s manual, fitted car cover, spare, jack, and various restoration/ownership and related documentation.
