1938 AC 2 Litre March Special to 16/80 Spec.
Chassis No: L591 Engine No: UMB378 Reg No: EXB 346
Price: £69,700
A very underrated Tourer suitable for a plethora of events and with a gem of an engine likewise much undervalued. This lovely AC dates from March 1938 and has its original registration and chassis numbers.
She is finished in a light blue complemented by black leather upholstery and very good weather equipment with hood, tonneau and hoodbag. The bodywork was rebuilt to March Special spec by Rod Jolley to an exceptionally high standard and looks resplendent from virtually every angle either with hood up or down. The car is registered as Sports in the V5 for those who need this information.
The engine has been fully overhauled by a marque specialist with new liners, pistons, white metalling and a head overhaul and installed by Lodge Engineering after which some 7,000 miles have been covered, much of it on European forays. Triple Su`s have been fitted to this `catspaw` engine and the engine is now to 16/80 spec rather than the 16/70 slightly lower compression version. The engine maintains excellent oil pressure and there are many bills on file for the works carried out. The gearbox has been fully reconditioned with new bearings and seals and a new clutch at the point some 7,000 miles ago.
She does not overheat even in the hot French traffic conditions owing to an uprated radiator and this lovely automobile is rounded off with respoked wire wheels, not rebuilt, shod with Comp H tyres and a fully reconditioned instrument panel.
All in all a lovely car which would benefit from a cosmetic `touch up` here and there but which has been driven and has taken part in events. There is even a towing plug behind the spare wheel as the present owner towed a fold flat caravan to European events, unhitched, took part and then hitched up and drove home! A car suitable for many events and priced at £69,700.
