Descriere
Hailing from the great Bill Wiemann Hemi collection, this stunning, documented, matching-numbers 1970 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda is perhaps the most accurately restored example of the breed anywhere in existence, and shows what we believe to be 28,355 original miles. Finished to factory specifications in every way, documented by Galen Govier and refreshed to correct any deficiencies he discovered, you won't find a more thoroughly researched and properly restored Hemi 'Cuda anywhere at any price. If you've been looking for the best, this is it.

It is also loaded with options and has been restored to match its fender tags:

Fender Tag 2:

HEMI FENDER (A factory reference for modified fenders to accommodate Hemi-specific F60-15 wheels and tires)

The only deviations from the tag are a set of color-matched Elastomeric Bumpers (the original chrome bumpers are included with the car), color-keyed sport mirrors, and the traditional Hemi hockey stick stripes, but otherwise this is a loaded Hemi 'Cuda that's ready to compete at the very highest levels. The Rallye Red finish is simply spectacular, applied over factory-issued quarter panels and bodywork that has been massaged to perfection. Look at the photos and you can see there's not a ripple, wave, or ding anywhere on the flanks of this stunning Hemi, and panel fit is about as good as it gets. The big Shaker hood scoop is color-matched to the body, and many purists will argue that the 1970 'Cuda grille is the best looking of the bunch.

Other details, including the wide ribbed rocker molding, have been expertly restored-not too nice, not too perfect, but rather just how the factory would have done it in 1970. The Hemi decals on the quarters are accurate reproductions that really do dress up the otherwise low-profile Hemi hardtop body and happen to match the black vinyl roof perfectly. All the glass is original to the car and what little brightwork remains has been restored to better-than-new condition.

Investment-grade is what the 426 Hemi under the hood is all about, and is the reason why these cars were getting dangerously close to carrying million-dollar price tags just a few years ago. This is the original, numbers-matching engine has been fully restored and rebuilt to original specifications. The engine bay, as I mentioned, was examined by Galen Govier following the restoration in 2005 and subsequent to that, Rob Torry of Rob Torry Restorations in Des Moines, Iowa corrected every flaw Galen found. As a result, every single component is accurately date-coded and correct for a 1970 Hemi 'Cuda built in May. The block and heads are bathed in near-perfect Hemi Orange paint that is likely far nicer than any factory application, and the wrinkle finish on the distinctive valve covers is precise and uniformly applied. Correctly coded plug wires, properly marked hoses, and factory style clamps are used throughout, and even things like the plastic clips to hold the wiring harness are exact. Experts will also note that the washer fluid bottle is original, the horns are correctly oriented, and the power brake booster is correct for a Hemi. A correct red cap Group 27 battery has been recently installed, along with proper decals and markings to complete a show-winning engine compartment.

The engine is backed by a heavy duty 727 TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission from a '68 Hemi Super Bee feeding a Dana 60 with steep 4.10 gears on a Sure Grip limited slip. That means that this elephant can boil the tires at will, although it is actually quite pleasant out on the open road. The chassis is nicely restored, with proper finishes on all the ancillary components, and OEM equipment on the suspension, brakes, and even a reproduction factory-style exhaust system with correct chrome tips peeking through the rear valence. Note that there's no evidence of welding on the trunk pan, because this is an exceptionally clean car wearing its original sheet metal. And as a pure performance car, the classic painted steel wheels with simple hubcaps always look awesome on a Hemi, with this one wearing a set of reproduction F60-15 Goodyear Polyglas GT tires for a perfect period look.

Inside you'll find the black vinyl interior is as beautifully restored and preserved as the rest of the car. Beautiful seat covers by the pros at Legendary have been fitted over fresh foam, and there's exactly zero evidence that this car has been driven. From the original dash pad with the original VIN tag still affixed by factory rivets, to the tag hanging from the turn signal stalk, it is factory fresh in every way. A beautifully restored center console and woodgrained steering wheel warm up the Hemi's interior, while a full complement of fresh Rallye gauges keep an eye on the big V8 under the hood. The sill plates are new, the seatbelts have been re-webbed, and all the knobs and handles are fresh. Even the original Music Master AM radio works as it should. In back, the trunk is finished as it was from the factory with a space-saver spare, inflation canister, and jack assembly.

Documentation includes the original Chrysler Corporation Broadcast Sheet, Govier inspection report, receipts from the restoration, and the original title showing that the mileage is correct and authentic. There is also an extensive article that pits this car against an LS6 Chevelle, which was published in the May 2011 issue of "Hemmings Muscle Machines" magazine.

Investment-grade Mopars are still blue-chip places to park some cash and they haven't become any less amazing to own and drive. With an impeccable pedigree, matching numbers, and a lengthy list of options, this Hemi 'Cuda hardtop is the one to complete your collection. Take advantage of a soft market and make your move, because if history has taught us anything, the very best cars always set new records when the markets rebound, and this car certainly qualifies.
