1968 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SSScreaming Yellow Zonkers - remember that tasty treat? Sure, it was just popcorn with good marketing; but you have to admit it was hard to forget! Here's a Zonker of another type - Screaming Yellow for sure, but with far more substance than hype. With a stroked 406 under its hood, tasteful touches throughout its restoration, and a 1st place at 2007's Grand National Roadster Show as proof of its stellar workmanship, this '68 Camaro absolutely POPS!

Let's start outside, where PPG Lemon Ice graces this Super Sport's classic flanks and highlights every one of its mirror-like panels. And I'm not just spinning hype either; this is one of the straightest Camaros I've ever seen! The car was painted with a one-step process so there'd be no paint or tape lines in any of its door, hood or trunk jambs. Gloss black urethane volunteered for the honor of being Super Sport bumblebee stripes and, like the car's body, is smooth as silk. A spotless Rally Sport grille and Z/28 chin spoiler combine with that header stripe to provide a ton of attitude. And of course, all-new lenses, bezels, window trim, mirrors, taillights and moldings are present and accounted for. New "SS" emblems adorn all four facets of the car, and chrome Super Sport hood louvers are an awesome sight from the custom driver's seat. The exclamation point to all this classic American design is a quartet of chrome American Racing Torque Thrust IIs, 17s up front and 18s out back, that are wrapped in BFGoodrich G-Force KDWs which measure 225/45/17 and 235/50/18 respectively. But don't get the wrong impression; this Camaro is by no means over the top. It's simply executed so well that you have to stop and stare!

Open the vivid yellow hood and once you're over being blinded by the duo of Edelbrock Endurashine carburetors and chrome Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake manifold you'll be able to clearly see this restoration's attention to detail. Tall, polished aluminum valve covers, polished air cleaners that are equipped with reusable filter elements, a billet serpentine system, a polished aluminum radiator that's complete with a chrome overflow tank, chrome fender support bars, and a chrome alternator, AC compressor, master cylinder and brake booster are all expected. What's not expected is a 406 cubic inch block that's been smoothed, filled and painted body color and a smoothed, filled and painted firewall that's been carefully matched to the car's body. And what's even better is this stout small block's killer sound and eye-opening acceleration. The symphony of the gear drive, the massive carbs and aggressive Flowmasters shredding the engine's leftovers is something you won't soon forget! And the neck snapping g-forces that are directly correlated to the distance of your foot from the floor is something you'll quickly become addicted to.

Duck underneath the car and check out its impressive running gear. Wilwood four-piston brakes utilize braided lines and giant calipers to bring this speed demon to a halt in a hurry. At the front of the car, a fully rebuilt suspension, which is complete with a fresh power steering system, ensures the ships bridge commands don't go unnoticed by the crew. And at the back of the car, multi-leaf springs combine with high quality Bilstein shocks to provide a comfortable ride and tight cornering. Checking out the rock solid floor pans, you'll see a beautiful OEM semi-gloss black finish and brand new brake and fuel lines woven behind new hardware and new sub frame bushings. A Flowmaster exhaust quiets things down to a take-notice rumble; but if loud isn't loud enough, a simple push of a cockpit mounted button opens two QTP electric exhaust cutouts. Behind the engine, a 200-4R automatic overdrive transmission, which is coupled to a 2400 stall converter and a Painless Wiring electronic lockup control, is a welcome addition for cruising. Behind that transmission, a Mr. Gasket stud girdle holds the car's 10 bolt rear end together while adding a bit of flash. And as expected, everything else under this clean Camaro is fully-sorted and ready for years of shows and cruise ins.

Slip inside the car's cockpit and rest a while on the custom Scat bucket seats. They sure didn't look like this to start with; it took over 100 hours of reworking and custom upholstery to make them appear so natural that they're usually overlooked altogether! At the top of the car, a new headliner fades into new headliner trim, new glass and new door panels that are complete with new handles and cranks. At the front of the car, a Screaming Yellow dash grabs your attention and focuses it on a restored gauge cluster that's complete with a coveted Tic-Toc-Tachometer. To your right, OEM center console gauges tell you what's going on up front while a modified Lokar shifter issues gear changes. And in front of you, a Grant steering wheel spins a Camaro horn button around a modern tilt steering column. A fresh Ron Francis wiring panel hides in the yellow glove compartment. The car's lockup and exhaust cutout controls are discretely placed to the right of the steering column. And when you dip your head into the trunk you'll find black carpeting that's accented by yellow stripes which visually tie into the car's super slick body.

From $0.99 O'Reilly's items to all-out major service projects, this Camaro comes with a massive, highly detailed catalog of receipts. Heck, you'll even find the paperwork for that cool custom trunk which set the car's previous owner back a solid $500!

Details are what win trophies at prestigious events like the Grand National Roadster Show in Los Angeles, California; and this awesome F1 knocked back a very competitive field to score Best Custom Hardtop - 1961-1969. Just take a minute to think about the caliber of cars that qualify for Best Custom Hardtop... If you're looking for a storming mean, drop dead gorgeous Zonker of your own, look no further!
