1940 FORD DELUXE 'BARN CAR' BUSINESS COUPE
You are looking at an ORIGINAL, un-detailed, unmolested, 1940 Ford Deluxe 5-Window Business Coupe. It's a great pleasure to source an original example like this one>..... shown right off the transport truck in Original Patina. This original 'Barn Find' was found in Farmington Hills, Michigan in it's original delivery color of "Folkstone Grey" (no, not "Sahara Tan") with matching Mohair Interior. While the Red Wheels were most likely added during it's life this car, it carries almost all of it's original equipment & patina. After research: we have the entire history of this beauty 'in house'. The first owner held the car in high regard, always keeping it garaged, from 'new' till 1969. The 2nd owner, a close friend, knew him and bought the car from his Estate, upon his passing. [Now's when it gets interesting] : He purchased the car but, as a well known, 'active' member of the Corvette Club in Michigan, he was compelled to keep the car hidden in storage, from his friends for 34 years... until, he also passed in 2003. The last owner knew of his friend, the car and the story so, he acquired it from the 2nd owner's estate. He coveted the car in his collection, and like it's previous owners, started it religiously & kept it serviced( only driving it 600 miles in 9 years). It is The Poster Child for a Time Capsule. She retains it's original Flathead V8 and 3-Speed Column Shift Transmission (which has never been out of the car). Plus, the Original AM Radio w/ Roof Antenna still works, Heater, Deluxe Hubcaps, Chrome Bumper Guards, "Ford" Grille Guard, Rear "Ford" Bumper Over-rider, Bumper 'Wings' F/R, Cigar Lighter, and the Clock are all original. The Signal Lights / Safety Belts were added at the insistence of the Wife, yet, it still carries the original style Wide Whitewall Ford Script Tires on 16" Wheels with "Ford DELUXE" Hubcaps, Beauty Rings and 'Glamour' Rings, Twin Visor Mirrors, Full Gauges including 'Temp' 'Fuel', Battery' & "Oil', Deluxe Steering Wheel (not Banjo) w/ "Deluxe" Ford Horn Button, Dual Mirror's, Optional Oil Filter, Gas Filter and, the very best part.... 37,272 Original Documented Miles & History (with "A"- Actual Mileage Title & Mileage Certificate). It even retains the original Maroon Interior Knobs and Dash Trim as delivered when it was new. Painted once in the 70's ('patina' faded but, easily savable), this car is a great testimony to The Way It Was....Not, The Way You Wish It Was. Yes, it is still a ALL Henry Ford Steel Car. Ford produced 599,175 Ford's that year but, only 27,919 "01A" 5 Window 3p Business Coupes were built in '40. Maybe, after 72 years, THAT's Why they are so hard to find O.R.I.G.I.N.A.L.
When you stop to think about it...the 1940 Ford Deluxe is the 40's Version on the 1957 Chevrolet in Popularity. It is One of the Most Extremely Handsome Automobiles Ever Made. Designed by Eugene Gregorie, with development overseen by Edsel Ford, the legendary 1940 Ford has been favored now by enthusiasts for over 3 Generations. In addition to Superior Construction, the '40 offered totally new innovations like; Sealed Beam Headlights, a 3-speed Column Shifter ( gone was the 'floor-shift'), and Lockheed Hydraulic Brakes ( actually a First for Ford in 1939 yet, still 4 years BEHIND the competition: Chrysler). This Top Level Ford got it's own Deluxe Style Grille combined with a Center Section set with Horizontal Bars and a Secondary Grid down each side (called "catwalks"). The Crisp, long Hood flowed, smoothly back into a Rakish Angled Windshield...while the Fenders were beautifully curved to compliment the entire body contour. The Headlamps were designed to be part of the fender faired into neat Fender Nacelles, while the Tail lights were created to form a "Vee". Step back and take a look at the whole package and realize 'it's the whole enchilada' that makes the 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe a Beautiful, Coveted Collectible. One thing about '40 Fords - they come in the resale field in every price range imaginable. Starting with fiberglass replica's, glassed-over steel cars, customized Hot Rod's, beautifully restored Original's and, of course, ALL Original. Offered in, not just 2 Door Coupe's, you could choose from 2-Door Sedans and 4 Door sedans and ,of course, the Super Desirable Convertible. There's almost a 40 Ford for every budget. Sadly, we keep finding them 'cobbled', painted colors they NEVER came in, modified, cut, channeled, ruined- with a Chevy 350 dumped in so, you can imagine our surprise to find a car like this....$49,500
