1967 Chevelle Malibu L79 327/325 horse 4-speed in show quality Butternut Yellow with black side stripes, black vinyl top, black bucket seat interior, and factory dog dish hubcaps. Incredible condition ultra-rare L79 car from the Dana Mecum collection; one of the best Chevelle collections in the world; and with only 31,331 miles. The matching numbers 327 / 325 horse engine is factory stock and still fitted with the Winters aluminum intake manifold, 4150 Holley 4-barrel carb, cast iron high flow exhaust manifolds, open element air cleaner, factory 11:1 pistons, free-revving 2.02 heads, and that wild factory 342 duration .4472 lift cam. These engines produce close to 400 horsepower but were rated at 325 by General Motors to not compete with the 396 cars on the showroom floor. They were all fitted with M21 close-ratio 4 speed transmissions and 12-bolt positraction rearends with higher than usual rear end gears (3.73-4.10s). This car has the original 4.10s. No power steering or power brakes were available with the L79 engine. This car fires right up and settles into a lopey idle with a deep aggressive exhaust note from the dual FlowMaster exhaust and that great sounding cam. No mechanical issues; no smoke, no leaks, no noises, and runs perfectly on 93 octane gas. Nails you back in the seat when you floor it and pulls hard from idle to 7000 RPM. L79s routinely beat big blocks on the drag strip & during the 1960s street wars; and left many SS396 owners wondering what the heck just happened. This car is correct with no power steering and no power brakes but steers easy and stops with authority. Very nice driving, great running car.
Perfect, show-ready interior with no wear and no damage. All factory original from 1967 except for the carpet and the interior door panels. Perfect bucket seats, perfect dash, perfect center console. No wear on the controls and the factory AM radio plays perfectly. Factory Rallye in-dash gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, & amps and they too all work correctly; as do all of the lights, turn signals, horn, windshield wipers, etc. No cracks in the original steering wheel. Very nice interior.
All original body with no replacement panels, no patch panels, and no body filler. No dings, no dents, no waves. Panel fit is factory perfect and everything lines up correctly. The underside is finished in the original chassis black paint and is show detailed with absolutely no surface rust. Show quality, perfect exterior paint in correct Butternut Yellow with the factory side stripes and the original black vinyl top (yellow & black is a striking color combination). Perfect original chrome and perfect original brightwork. The front grille and rear tail panel are factory original and are flawless. Excellent original glass and all windows operate smoothly. The trunk contains the original mat, original spare tire, and original jack assembly. The original steel wheels, correctly painted Butternut Yellow, have the original dog dish hubcaps and correct redline BFGoodrich Silverton tires. Just professionally detailed, polished, hand waxed, and turnkey ready for cruises and shows. The previous title in Dana Mecum's name is included and the original Build Sheet proves the authenticity of this car. Checked over by noted Chevelle expert and author Jim Brady. Easily one of the best L79s available anywhere and a very rare blue-chip investment grade car from the Dana Mecum Collection (being in his collection truly says it all).
