Comments
Easily the lowest mile, nicest Lotus Elan +2S anywhere. Lovely condition 1971 in Old English White with a black interior and silver factory pin drives. Frame-off restored car with full photo documentation and all factory books & records. West coast car (originally Nevada, then Washington state), never rusted, never hit, with only 28,554 miles, and drives like new. The factory Twin Cam 1600cc engine with dual Zenith Stroberg carbs is factory stock and unmodified.. Starts immediately and settles into a smooth idle with an aggressive exhaust note from the new factory-correct exhaust. No mechanical issues; no smoke, no leaks, no noises. Pulls hard through the rev range and weighing only 2000 pounds, accelerates like a small block Corvette. The 4-speed manual transmission shifts perfectly, and the 3.55 rearend provides relaxed cruising. Light weight, quick throttle response, four wheel independent suspension, low effort rack & pinion steering, and power 4-wheel disc brakes all provide one of the best sports car drives from the glory days of Europe. Priced higher than a Corvette and equivalent to a Porsche 911 when new, these cars drive nicer than either.
Excellent original black bucket seat interior with 2+2 seating. These are the largest Lotuses ever and have enough room for 2-full grown Americans and 2 children. Power windows operate smoothly. Factory 140 mph speedometer, 8000 RPM tachometer, and factory Smiths gauges for oil pressure, water temperature, amps, ambient temperature, and fuel level; all operate properly and are set into a gorgeous burled walnut dash. The original steering wheel is excellent and there are no flaws in the dash cover or sunfade on the instruments. Ample front seat legroom, comfortable bucket seats, long doors for comfortable in & out, and a large trunk for luggage make for a pleasant & fun weekend car.
Perfect original fiberglass body with a never damaged history. No patches, no repairs, no cracks, no flaws. The underside is unpainted fiberglass as from the factory. Lovely Old English White paint resprayed with PPG acrylic urethane base/clear to better than factory standards. Perfect chrome front & rear bumpers & trim. Brand new weatherstripping, window whiskers, and trunk seal. Vacuum operated headlights, open & close properly with the headlight switch. Quick-Fil gas door. Air horns. Factory fog lights. Factory pin-drive knock-off wheels fitted with new radials. The restoration is just completed with 500 break-in miles; runs & drives perfectly, ready for cruises and winning trophies. Lovely 28,554 mile car.
Documentation includes the original owner's manual, original service pamphlet, 1971 bill-of-laden from England, original bill-of-sale, all original correspondence, factory service manual, the receipts from the recent frame-off restoration, and a computer disc showing the many steps of the total restoration completed in 2012.
