This limited edition Mustang was originally ordered by Rusty Eck Ford in Wichita, Kansas and, like most of our low-mileage, factory-fresh offerings, is virtually spotless in every way. The car's super straight body displays a glossy coat of Ford Race Red that, based on its smooth appearance, has never been driven in rain, parked under inclement skies or seen much time outside of a building at all. And that bright red pigment lays the ground work for a blanket of professional pace car decals which are tastefully unique and equally interesting. Of course, this blue oval bombshell has never seen a body shop because it's a 100% accident and damage-free showpiece that's never been in the hands of more than one owner. There's essentially nothing on the car that could be considered more than prerequisite shelf wear. And, as your number one source for Fords of all ages, we're proud to present it as the latest in our long line of exceptional modern Mustangs!
Combining clean factory sheetmetal with strategically placed marketing scripts, this awesome Ford rarity looks fit for the track and ready for the press booth. At the front of its body, a pace car-specific grille hangs a traditional pony emblem between optional HID head lamps and an aggressive Boss valence that's complete with small driving lights. Behind that valence, a traditional GT hood leads the eye to a chip-free windshield, a factory-tinted greenhouse and an optional glass roof. Below that roof, body-matched mirrors and factory rocker trim combine with hallowed "5.0" emblems to highlight broad-shouldered side panels. And at the back of those panels, a stylish pedestal spoiler hangs over sequenced LED tail lamps, a pace car-specific faux fuel filler, and an aggressive rear bumper that's complete with bright chrome exhaust tips.
Of course this garage-fresh Mustang presents well, but the car's biggest selling point is what's under its sculpted hood. Looking completely sanitary between body-matched fenders and an insulated firewall is a state of the art 5.0 liter Ford 'mod motor' that's rated at a pavement scorching 412 horsepower and a hefty 390 lb./ft. of torque. Officially named the Coyote motor, and officially found on Ward's prestigious Ten Best Engines list, this all-aluminum road rocket utilizes redesigned cylinder heads, 32 light weight valves, variable valve timing, a long runner single scroll intake, a direct mount throttle body, a forged steel crank, forged steel connecting rods and oil-cooled hypereutectic pistons to create a stout 11 to 1 compression ratio and a lofty 7,000 RPM redline. Twist the key and the stellar powerplant rumbles to life, sending its sinister notes down a tuned 2.5 inch dual exhaust system that sings through chrome, rear-mounted tips. Goose the throttle and the smooth mill builds inertia with surprising efficiency and docile manners that highlight instant and effortless power in any driving conditions. Stand on the go-pedal and you'll be notching serious triple-digit speeds faster than you can say the words "NASCAR pace car". Aesthetically, the compact engine is tidy with "Powered by Ford" cam covers and a nicely detailed "5.0" fuel rail cover concealing most of its factory silver block. And the race-inspired engine bay, topped by a pace car-specific strut brace, is clean of any extraneous wires, bulky hose installations or sloppy aftermarket bolt-ons.
As with its awesome motor, the rest of this Mustang's first class powertrain is similar to the proven hardware of Ford's regular production GT as well. There's a slick-shifting Getrag 6-speed that twists an optional 3.73 limited slip rear end. Since the original pace car's chassis had to be tuned for speed and steeply banked turns, this production version combines new electronic power steering with a few Ford Racing components to achieve better handling characteristics. At the same time, ride compliance was improved thanks to the recent redesign's significant chassis stiffening, which was long a Mustang sore point. The big engine's spent gases growl through a factory true dual exhaust system that's equipped with pace car-specific mufflers and spotless chrome tips. Braking is provided by four vented discs that are fitted with mandatory anti-lock software. And, of course, a full battery of Ford's standard stability and traction control systems are all present and accounted for. In an appeal to both the car's aggressive image and great track prowess, massive 19-inch alloy wheels were covered in slick graphite paint and mounted to high quality 245/45 Pirelli P Zero Neros. And although this coupe is probably still a little softer than the car it replicates, you're not likely to notice because its 6-speed transmission is an absolute delight and its suspension chews up pavement with the tenacity of a pit bull.
Drop inside this pristine, polished pony and you'll immediately notice that its optional California Special seats are every bit as comfortable as they are attractive. In front of those seats, a familiar Mustang dash seals intricately detailed gauges behind faux carbon fiber trim and a 12 volt power outlet. Below that power outlet, a Shaker 500 stereo system combines with Sirius Satellite radio and Ford's revolutionary SYNC system to become a one-stop shop for all your electronic needs. Below that audio system, a wide console props a small shifter in front of ample storage space. Beneath that storage space, like-new carpet is protected by Ford Racing floor mats and pace car-specific sill plates. Above those sill plates, sculpted door panels hang full-length armrests between small chrome handles and big kick speakers. And naturally, all the luxuries you'd expect in a high dollar muscle car are present and accounted for including: cruise control, power windows, power door locks, power mirrors with built in blind spots, a power driver's seat, and remote keyless entry that's complete with built in theft deterrent software. It's always hard to describe a car that is essentially new in every way. So I'll just sum this Mustang up by saying that everything, from its ice cold air conditioning to its super cool MyColor interior lighting, is in impeccable working order.
The sale of this awesome pace car includes all the stuff you'd expect it to drive off a Ford lot with. The car's proud new owner will receive the original window sticker outlined above, an original dealer invoice, a stack of original books and manuals, and a 2011 Ford Racing calendar that features a picture of Ford's actual Daytona 500 pace setter.
There's no question this Mustang mixes instant collectability with some seriously threatening performance hardware. Authenticity, pedigree, and performance are what make vintage Mustang's blue chip collectables today. And in the future, those same things will make platforms like this Daytona 500 Pace Car just as desirable!
