BMW E31 850CSi
We are fortunate enough to have yet another amazing 850CSi coming in to us here at Munich Legends, this one with less than 65,000 miles showing on the clock.
In gleaming Oxford Green coachwork and Silvergrey 2-tone leather interior, this 850CSi has been in the possession of its current owner since 2006, after spending 11 years with its previous keeper. This car comes with a wealth of paperwork all meticulously organised in a chronological file, and has a full service history comprised solely of BMW main dealers and specialists – including Munich Legends. There’s also a stamp from Hartshill of Maidstone for that all-important running-in service, carried out at 1,248 miles back in 1994.
This amazing machine houses the impressive S70 engine twinned to the Getrag 6-speed manual ‘box featured as standard in the 850CSi. Developed from the M70, the S70 increased stroke and bore and gave more aggressive valve timings, resulting in an increase in maximum power up to an impressive 380 hp at 5,300 RPM and 550Nm or 402 lb/ft at 4,000 RPM. With the hydraulic control unit mounted on the diff, the 850 uses hydraulic rear steering linked to servatronic front steering to give precise, high-speed stability and harness the S70’s significant power output for a great driving experience.
This particular car drives and handles as brilliantly as you’d expect from an 850CSi showing this mileage, with impressive speed and responsive steering. The interior cabin is in excellent condition, with only some slight wear showing on the driver’s upright seat bolster, and the paintwork has a deep lustre and shine that is truly eye-catching. The car is completely free of corrosion, even in the usual 8 Series “hot spots” such as wheel arches and sunroof panel, and will be supplied fully serviced and with a fresh MOT certificate.
Originally displayed in Frankfurt in 1991, the 850CSi was then produced between 1992 and 1996, with only 160 RHD European-spec models rolling off the production line. Although not referred to as the “M8” (this remained a prototype only and was never mass produced), the 850CSi is undoubtedly a true BMW “M” car, having been developed and produced exclusively by BMW Motorsport. This particular 850CSi presents an opportunity to own a true BMW Motorsport classic, and is undoubtedly one of the few examples available today with such relatively low mileage and excellent provenance.
The 850CSi is currently undergoing its pre-sales prep work, but will be available very soon for viewing.
