1985 Mercedes Benz 280SL

The W107 model Mercedes Benz SL is an absolute classic which lasted in production for almost 20 years. The W107 was in production from 1972 replacing the iconic Pagoda roof model which came off the production line in 1971.

This very smart, original 280SL has a recorded mileage of 74000. The car has been with its last owner in Jersey since last year and has covered in the region of 1000 faultess miles. We collected the car in South London and drove the car back to Yorkshire and it is truly first class on the road.  We don't have early history with the car but the mileage does fit with the excellent condition of the running gear and general original condition of the car. The SL has been thoroughly enjoyed, used without the hard top roof over the summer for touring and occasionally used with the top on during winter months. The car has proven to be a superb, reliable all year round classic that offers excellent performance and reliability.

B88 CPU is a very smart, honest example with original upholstery. The drivers seat does have a minor split and will be repaired for the next owner but on the whole the leather is very nice and has aged well. The carpets, dash and door cards are in good original condition and the interior represents a car that has been well cared for and maintained. The body is particularly good with excellent wings, superb wheel arches and beautiful straight panels. The paintwork is of an excellent standard with a high quality finish that really gleams. The chrome work is bright and the wheels are superb and very bright having being re-painted. The engine bay and boot areas are clean and the hood and hard top are both in very good order.

The Mercedes is a superb driver and when it first came to us in part exchange against a MKII Jaguar it was driven here from Ripon on two occasions. He had used the SL on a regular basis, often driving it up to Scotland touring. The SL has a smooth gear change, strong, quiet engine with lots of power offering impressive performance. The 280SL handles superbly and brakes are efficient and the car pulls up perfectly straight. This example has been very well maintained and offers excellent value.
