1956 Porsche

INTERIOR

The period-correct race interior has been entirely crafted from aluminium. The 550 Spyder seats are accurate reproductions having been re-created from early photographs, with the exact number of rivets on each seat; they are also surprisingly comfortable.

 

Having covered so few miles since the car's build the interior remains in excellent order. The painted dash is free from any scratches, and features a set of 1950's Junghans Rally Timers. While the five-point TRS harnesses are a modern concession, this example does benefit from a flyaway handbrake and cross-drilled aluminium pedals. You may also notice the correct twin Autopulse 500 fuel pumps placed as per the originals, beside the driver.

ENGINE & TRANSMISSION

The car is fitted with a Porsche 914/Type 4 engine, which has been bored and stroked to 2056cc. Benefitting from twin Dellorto carburettors and a custom straight-through stainless steel exhaust, this 550 not only sounds incredible but has plenty of power to boot.

 

Equipped with a Porsche 901 dogleg gearbox this example drives with plenty of vintage charm. Featuring CSP disc brakes all round it is able to stop well too.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The 550 sits on a set of genuine 15-inch Lemmertz wheels. They are finished in silver with absolutely no curb marking or wear to note. Furthermore they are all dated either 1959 or 1960, and are shod in a matching set of 165VR15 rated tyres.

HISTORY FILE

The car was built using a Martin & Walker chassis and body. It was meticulously assembled and modified where necessary by marque guru Paul Foreman. There has been considerable attention to detail paid in both the specification and the build of this vehicle, and as such it is exemplary.

 

Registered as a 1956 Volkswagen it has completed just over 1,000 miles since it's build. Now offered to the market for the first time, it has been shaken-down and is ready to enjoy.
