1990 BMW

The Sport Evolution (Evo 3) was the final homologation and the most advanced version of the already highly successful E30 M3. Six hundred Sport Evolutions, or EVO III’s as they are sometimes known, were built between December 1989 and March 1990. Available only in Brilliant Red or Jet Black, they were powered by the already legendary S14 motor, but this time in 2.5 litre form. The result was an increase in power to 238bhp at 7000rpm and 177lb ft of torque at 4750 rpm.

Unique bodywork featured modified front wings, adjustable front and rear spoilers, two tone 16” wheels, removal of the touring fuel tank, a longer 3.15-1 diff ratio, suede steering wheel and gearknob, red seat belts, red HT leads, Recaro front seats with harness holes and not forgetting that all important dash plaque. Without a doubt the Sport Evo has become the most collectable tin top race car of it’s decade.

The Sport Evolution is seen as one of the most collectable in the E30 M3 range and many now reside in long term collections. Rarely do cars of this low mileage and condition become available for sale. History

We bought this car in Turin in July 2000 and drove it back to the UK. We sold the car to the first UK owner with 61,988 KM. This owner kept the car for nearly three years.

On 28th March 2003 and with 99,500KM we sold the car to the second UK owner. During his care the car was been pampered and spoilt to an extremely high level.

In February 2014 we sold the car again to the current owner. He has struggled to come to terms with parting with his long awaited Sport Evo but business opportunities mean the car must find a new owner. This amazing car is in show condition and is mechanically superb. It is 100% original and has never been molested or modified. Every panel is original and the body shell has never been welded.

The car comes with a fully stamped original service book from new both here and in Italy. The original Italian logbook is still present. The history file includes every MOT and invoice since arrival in the UK including the sales invoice to the current owner. The history file shows clearly the very high level of care, with invoices totalling circa £25,000. All tools, handbooks, wallet, spare keys, original mats, first aid kit, warning triangle, original BMW radio and speakers are present. The radio has been converted to IPod compatibility.

The car has had some cosmetic paintwork carried out to retain that ‘as new’ look. This immaculate example does not just benefit from an exceptionally well documented full service history, in recent years it has also benefitted from a complete air condition rebuild including condenser, receiver dryer, compressor and pipes, new distributor cap and rotor arm, new clutch master cylinder, centre exhaust section (cats) and new rear exhaust box.

This stunning Sport Evo has passed through the Classic Heroes workshop for a thorough programme of age related and preventive work. The following work was carried out.

Inspection II service, new rear cam carrier gasket, rebuilt drivers door lock, new dash bulbs as required, new front brake discs and pads, new alternator bushes, new brake fluid and coolant, full PDI, new cam cover breather hose, new upper and lower sump gaskets, new timing chain tensioner seals, new front spoiler splash shields, full a/c test and service, front spoiler painted, radio changed to original BMW unit, new suede steering wheel and gearknob, new battery and clips, new wiper blades, new indicator switch, New glove box catch, road test and MOT. Finally the underside of the car has been thoroughly cleaned, inspected and sympathetically Waxoyled.
