Description
At the 1948 London Motor Show, Jaguar launched the new XK120 open two-seater roadster. The "120" in the name referred to the car's documented 120 mph (193 km/h) top speed which made it the world's fastest production car at the time of its launch. The roadster caused such a sensation that Jaguar was forced to put the car into production before any tooling for the body panels had been manufactured. The display car was the first prototype, chassis number 670001 with the next 242 open 2-seater bodies being produced with hand formed aluminum panels over a wood frame. Production switched to all-steel in early 1950.
We have the Jaguar Heritage Certificate which confirms this is a matching numbers car. Date of manufacture was February 7th 1950, the original exterior paint color was Pastel Blue. interior trim color was Duo-Blue and the soft top was Fawn. The original distributor was Hoffman of New York.
