1968 Plymouth GTX

1968 PLYMOUTH GTX 440/375HP V8 CONVERTIBLE
West Coast Classics are proud to present a great example of this rare survivor and unrestored 1968 Plymouth GTX Convertible with the 440/375HP 4 barrel high performance engine, 1 of only 1,026 true RS27 convertibles built in 1968 (and only 680 in '67 & 711 in '69 which included 11 Hemi's). The car has its original factory correct all vinyl black bucket seats interior with a center console with tachometer and a floor shifter, AM radio, fender mounted turn signals, deluxe wheel covers and additional interior lighting, GTX dual hood scoops, dual exhausts, 440 V8 engine and Torqueflite automatic 3 speed transmission.

The car was purchased a couple of years ago by its previous owner with the drive components; engine, transmission and rear end; all reportedly original to the car and who then reportedly completed the following work:

Transmission rebuilt
New top with glass window installed.
New convertible hydraulic cylinders & lines installed.

The Plymouth GTX was introduced as the Belvedere GTX in 1967 by the Plymouth division to be the 'Gentleman's' muscle car. The GTX proved to be an exceptional blend of style and performance with a heavy duty suspension system as standard. Standard too was Plymouth's 440 cu in (7.2 L) V8 engine named the 'Super Commando 440'. This engine was rated at 375 hp and buyers in 1967 had the option to pay an extra $546 and replace the 440 with the legendary 'J' code 426 cu in (7.0 L) Hemi engine nicknamed the 'Elephant'. In 1968, after one year of production, the GTX was given a completely new look. A new hourglass body replaced the more box-like body of 1967 and another model, the Roadrunner, was introduced by Plymouth as a performance version of the Satellite. There were major changes made in the design of all the Plymouth B-bodies. The Road Runner's base engine was the new 383 c.i 'Super Commando V8' (renamed the 'Road Runner 383'), while the high performance 440 was still standard in the GTX. The TorqueFlite 3 speed automatic transmission was standard on the GTX, with it being a $206 option in the Road Runner. The GTX used the Sport Satellite trim and was offered in two models, the limited edition and very rare two-door convertible and the two-door hardtop.

In summary, this is one great daily driver, turn-key ready to enjoy today of this increasingly desirable and low production very collectible 1968 Plymouth GTX 440/375HP V8 Convertible and a sure-fire investment that's sure to appreciate over the years for any classic American sixties muscle car enthusiast!
