Description

1967 Jaguar Mk II

The Mark 2 Jaguar 3.8 was manufactured between the years of 1959 and 1967. The car came with a 2.4, 3.4 or 3.8 litre engine. The 3.8 litre variant produced 220 bhp and is similar to the engine found in the 3.8 litre E-Type; it has the same crank, block, pistons and connecting rods as the engine in the E-type. The Mark 2 model has greatly improved visibility compared with the Mark 1 and the cabin is altogether more spacious. In addition, there was a new instrument layout, an improved heating system and four-wheel disc brakes were fitted as standard. The 3.8 litre model was also supplied with a Limited Slip Differential. Despite the increased weight, capability to seat five adults and the luxury of leather and wood, the car would still reach a top speed of 125 mph and would accelerate to 60 mph in 8.5 seconds. Later on, the foundations of the Mark 2 were revisited when Jaguar launched the S Type in 1999 – some considered this to be the modern version of the Mark 2.
This 1967 Jaguar Mk2 3.8 was supplied new to New Zealand and first registered in 1967. The car is finished in the well-suited combination of Black with Red leather and is accompanied by a set of wire wheels. Delivered by Shorters Cars in New Zealand, this example was in fact later owned by David Shorter for approximately 25 years until 2010. This is a very late MK2, with just 44 further cars manufactured after this one, before production ended. In 2011, the car was completely overhauled by International Motorsport in New Zealand, with all invoices present to show the detailed extent of the work undertaken. The entire car was stripped and re-assembled, the underbody was undersealed and components were overhauled, repaired, adjusted and repainted with no expense spared. The car is breathtakingly original and comes complete with the factory supplied owner's manual, warranty card and other original books. It is clear that the car has been fastidiously maintained and it is rare to find such a well looked after example that maintains such originality.
