Description

1969 Jaguar E-Type SII

The Jaguar E-Type is a British automobile legend, manufactured by Jaguar between 1961 and 1975. A combination of good looks, high performance, and competitive pricing ensured the car was an instant legend. In period, a Ferrari cost three times more and supplied less horse power which established the marque as an icon of 1960s motoring. The model became a great success for Jaguar; at its release Enzo Ferrari called it "The most beautiful car ever made". The model was made in three distinct versions which are now generally referred to as "Series 1", "Series 2" and "Series 3".
The Jaguar E Type Series 2 featured a 4.2 litre 6 cylinder engine which produced 246 bhp. There was a 4-speed all synchromesh gearbox fitted, although automatic transmission was available on certain models upon request. New US design legislations meant that there were a few changes to the Series 2 cars, such as the absence of glass headlight covers, wrap around rear bumpers, larger front and rear indicators below the bumpers and an enlarged grille. The switchgear was also replaced with rocker-type units. The standard series 2 included an upgraded braking system and twin electric fans which enabled better cooling.
This RHD Series 2 4.2 Jaguar E-Type was delivered new to New Zealand Jaguar importer and dealer, Shorters of Auckland in RHD and is finished in its original Pale Primrose with Black Leather and factory hard top. The car was first registered in New Zealand on the 24th October 1969 and has had remarkably just one family and one private owner during its life. Initially, the car was owned for many years by Shorters themselves having never been sold to a customer. Upon the passing of Eric Shorter in 1971 the car was passed to his son Mark, who treasured it and used it very sparingly with the car now showing just over 10,000 original miles. When Mark wasn't driving it, the car sat pride of place in his showroom preserving its exceptional condition and allowing the car to win the Intermarque Concours NZ in 1975. Mark kept the car until selling it to the second owner in 2009.
In 2011 the car was mechanically restored and resprayed by International Motorsport in Auckland at a cost of over £90,000. Now presented in breath-taking condition, the car has all the invoices for the restoration present and is in our opinion in need of nothing. Remarkably the interior is completely original, although it is in such good condition, it could easily be mistaken for one that has just been revised. This E-Type comes with the factory supplied document wallet which contains the original Pre-Delivery Check Card, Warranty Card, Service Book and Owner's Manual. It also has the original sales brochure which has been kept with the car since new. Ready to be enjoyed by the next owner immediately, the car is available to view at our showroom based just outside London.
