Description
Introduced to the world at the New York Motor Show in 1954 alongside the 300SL Gullwing, the 190SL was the glamorous but more affordable way to enjoy Mercedes Benz engineering and convertible motoring.
This particular car was sold new in San Francisco and has remained a life long California resident. It was sold by Studebaker Packard, the original MB sales agents, and still retains its original showroom window sticker.
This tells us that it was sold in MB 050 White with factory red leather trim and that the options were a Becker Europa radio and bumper over riders. All this it retains to this day along with the original factory toolkit, book pack with handbook etc, and the very rare (and working) glovebox clock.
Amazingly, this car has had the same owner for the past 31 years and has a service history going back 40 years with just two owners. Importantly it is a matching numbers car and although it has had a cosmetic repaint and retrim, it has never been restored and has remained in quite superb original rust free condition . Today it is now fully serviced, Mot'd and UK registered.
Scholars of Mercedes history may be interested to note that at the time of its launch, the 190SL cost rather more than half the price of a 300SL Gullwing... room for growth?
This is a great find!
