As a tribute to Enzo Ferrari’s son, Alfredo, who died at age 24, Ferrari planned to launch its new cars with six-cylinder engines onto the market under the brand name ‘Dino’. However, because the US importer had little faith in the marketing potential of such an unknown name, the cars were offered as Fiat Dino. And in the case of the 2-liter version of the Dino, this was also the truth, as this car was actually built by Fiat. However, the 2.4 liter version was built at the Ferrari factory, where only 424 Spiders ever rolled out of the factory during its three-year production run. Hence, with this type of engine, a very rare car indeed. And even rarer is to find an unrestored, well-preserved Spider today, one with the original metal plating and no rust, as the Spider offered here. On the hunt for exceptional and pure classic cars, we got a tip from an Italian friend that a wealthy collector near Rome had this extraordinary Spider. This gentleman was growing old and hence wanted to reduce his collection, so agreed to bless us with this Dino. He had owned the car for more than 15 years. Always dry and warm garaged. The car was never driven in the winter or in the rain. And our technicians recently tuned up the engine.
