Description
1963 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider 1600
History
Sporting elegant coachwork designed and built by Pininfarina, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider was a huge success and continued virtually unchanged in 1.6-litre Giulia guise when the latter joined the line-up in 1962. Launched at the Monza Autodrome on 27th June that year, the Giulia range was the work of a design team headed by one of the greatest of Italian automobile engineers, Dr Orazio Satta Puliga, who had been responsible for all the post-war Alfa Romeos. The capacity increase from 1,300 to 1,600cc boosted maximum power of Alfa's classic twin-cam four from 80 to 92bhp and the car's top speed to 109mph. Reliability was likewise enhanced and the larger engine was noticeably smoother and less buzzy, a five-speed gearbox was standard on the Giulia 1600 Spider, which remained in production until 1966. Described by Cars Illustrated as 'probably one of the most delightful small sports cars which will ever be produced,' the Giulia Spider is certainly one of the most attractive Alfa Romeos of its day and remains highly regarded now. |

Overall comments
Built in 1963, registered 1964, this Giulia spider is equipped with drum brakes all around and a single Solex carburettor. Finished in mid grey with red leather interior. The car drives well and recent attention has been paid to a number of areas, which have been replaced or recently serviced as identified below in the mechanical description. A potentially valuable Alfa Romeo Giulia spider which needs attention to the chassis, floors and outriggers which we will be happy undertake for the new owner. |

Body
The previous floor and chassis repairs could have been better executed, and could be replaced with new panels.Attention will be needed to areas of the underside prior to be being MOT’d or put to use. A secondary option would be to have the car fully restored. The paint finish on the coachwork could be also be improved,. The bumpers and external chrome are in very good condition. The work can be carried out in a choice of two stages either to MOT standard or to a full restoration, we will be happy to provide a costing guide for either option. |
