1970 Mercedes-Benz 280SL

The WD113 series was first produced in 1963 to super-seed the slow 190 SL and expensive 300 SL range. Six cylinder fuel injected with an aluminium bonnet, boot and doors to save weight the car performed very well combined with a short and wide chassis gave the car excellent handling capabilities. A success for Mercedes-Benz with almost 50,000 230, 250 and 280 SL models made. This 280 SL was recently imported from the dry state of California and due to its condition was obviously a well maintained and looked after motorcar.

Overall comments

A very desirable colour scheme of gun metal metallic with the blue leather interior. An iconic Mercedes Benz that is user friendly and suitable for daily use with its disc brakes, power steering, powerful engine and hard and soft tops. An appreciating classic which is a joy to drive. EU taxes paid. Car is currently located in Dorset if viewing is required. Additional pictures can be sent on request.

Body

The body is rust free being a dry state California car. Underside is in good condition and free from any repair work. Paintwork is in excellent condition with good chrome and brightwork. A very straight and impressive motor car especially finished in this colour scheme.

Interior

The interior is finished in blue leather with correct MB pattern and correct MB carpets all in excellent condition throughout. Hard and soft tops, period Becker radio (in boot). All instrumentation is working as they should.

Mechanical

A straight six engine unit with mechanical fuel injection and 2778 cc delivering a healthy 170 BHP and was able to achieve 124 mph. This motor car is driving very well and all operational with the air conditioning overhauled / replaced and the car just recently worked through by a MB trained and experienced mechanic.
