1939 Buick Series 40

BUICK McLAUGHLIN SPECIAL 40 SERIES.
Registration: FNF 44
5 passenger 4 door sedan, Right hand drive.
Sold new in the UK by Lendrum & Hartman.
Colour: Black
Model number: 4419
Engine number: 3422988
Body serial number: 264
VIN number: 944192228
3 former keepers on the V5 registration document.
248 cubic inch straight 8 cylinder engine 107 bhp
Fireball 8,
This beautiful rare, Buick was built by the McLaughlin coach building company in Canada.  It was built as an export model and was supplied new in the UK by prestigious London dealers, Lendrum & Hartman of Willesden.
McLaughlin manufactured, among others, a special custom built 1939 Buick for King George and Queen Elizabeth (The Queen mother) for their royal tour of Canada in 1939.
That car is now displayed at the British Columbia Museum of Transport.
Some pre-war Buicks were also assembled in London at a plant in The Hyde,
North London, just off the Edgeware Road.
Leather interior trim was an option on USA specification cars and standard
on export/UK cars.  This car has excellent original leather interior which
has been sympathetically refurbished, without losing the look and feel of
its originality. It is fully wax-oyled underneath, and doesn't appear to have
had any welding repairs.
Other available options were dual side mounted spare wheels and front
fender mounted side/parking lights; both of these are also fitted.
The previous owner of this lovely pre-war sedan inherited it from his father, Dr Ian Macpherson, who had owned the car since 1994.  History before this date is, as yet, unknown.  However, it is known that since 1994 it has been lovingly cared for and maintained by the McPherson family. There are some bills and invoices for repairs and maintenance during the 1994 - 2011 period.
Since taking possession of the car, we have carried out the following works:
Road wheels sandblasted and powder coated in ivory.
New 16" stainless steel trim rings fitted
4 new 3 ½" whitewall tyres fitted, BF Goodrich 6.50 x 16
Fitted stainless steel polished exhaust fish tail trim.
Treated, repaired and re-conditioned the leather interior.
Re-painted all the interior door cappings and surrounds.
Fitted new quality oatmeal coloured carpets, piped in blue leather.
Repaired and re-rubbered the running boards.
Cleaned and detailed the engine bay.
Flatted and machine polished the bodywork, making minor paint rectifications as required.
General valeting and various minor adjustments and refurbishments
The car is also fitted with a stainless steel exhaust system, the battery has recently been replaced and the bumpers have also been re-chromed recently.
This is a 3 speed column change (on the tree) manual gearbox, right hand drive car, it runs, drives, starts and stops very well indeed.  It drives beautifully and cruises happily on a motorway at about 60 mph.  It has no major issues outstanding; it runs at a constant temperature.  Its fun to drive and it will go anywhere without any worries about reliability.
This is a lovely rare car in the UK in right hand drive.  It would make an excellent wedding car, as well as being a first class investment.  Quality pre-war sedans such as this are
still very undervalued in our opinion.  It comes with original owner's
manual, workshop manual, sales advertisement, Parts catalogue's,
Buick reference book, history file, sold with 1 years MOT and 1
years tax.
This is not one of the restoration project cars sold at the
Captain America auction recently.
A rare opportunity to own an important piece of motoring history.
Sensibily priced at
£22,999
