Description

1956 Chevrolet Corvette

Every now and again you meet a collector of motorcars whose passion runs well beyond the “what” or “how many” regarding the contents of their garage.  These unique individuals see their automobile collection as a series of works of art; keeping them as original as possible is significantly more important and valuable than a wonderful looking car that has undergone a frame off restoration (or two).  The exterior “patina”; the perfect interior and consoles un-marred by the careless tossing of keys, change and other paraphernalia; the original door moldings in almost perfect condition; a steering wheel darkened over time by the natural oils from the drivers hands.  Add to these other important features offered by a vehicle like this such as the original emblems and badges (that still retain their vibrant colors after all the years); the period correct mechanical components from front to back and low, original miles.  All these things and more separate a good car from a truly remarkable car.
We, both you and I, are fortunate to have access to a few cars from one collector that without doubt falls into this category.  The first was an amazing 1968 T-Top Corvette Coupe.  The second is this beautiful 1956 Corvette.  This car has the original 265ci motor with two four barrel carburetors and a period correct 2 speed automatic transmission.  When the current owner acquired the car, it had been converted to a manual transmission.  Looking for originality, the transmission was converted back to a period correct 2 speed automatic.  The car has traveled 54,300 documented original miles (with some interesting paperwork) and has won numerous awards from NCRS including an 87 point “real Deal original car.  The car was stored for close to 25 years and suffered damage on top of a front fender when a beam fell on it.  That area was patched, repaired and painted at that time. The paint is mostly original and is very good condition.  Like the 68, time has added an attractive patina to the exterior finish; the interior is 100% original and also in excellent condition. The steering wheel, the gauges, seats, and door panels look fantastic as do the badges etc. Everything works as it is supposed to and the car comes with two tops.  If I tell you how solid this car is you would doubt my word; if I tell you how the engine sounds and performs you would likely doubt it also.  However, I rode in the car, I drove over railroad tracks, I felt the acceleration and noted the lack of rattles.  If you are lucky enough to ride in this car, you will know exactly what I mean; and there will be no doubt.
This car is a survivor and is being offered at $73,500; this car will not last long and will make its new owner proud to drive a true original piece of American history.
