Idon't like the word 'concours' as it is invariably misinterpreted or used inappropriately, but this car is an exception. Not only has it received a meticulous rebuild but the quality of the original parts and new equipment used is second to none, with the result it has been awarded a number of prestigous 'firsts'. If that's not your 'bag' don't worry, it has the ability and performance you would expect of a supercharged overhead camshaft MG!
Rebuilt from the floor-up on a J2 chassis to J3/J4 specification, this is one of the finest J models we've ever offered for sale.
The chassis has been upgraded with Duplex rolled edge shock absorbers, a higher ratio diff., the larger 12" J4 cable brake system, and Blockley 3-stud original pattern 450 x 19 tyres & tubes.
The engine is to J3/J4 spec. with a totally rebuilt cylinder head, bottom end with Phoenix c/b crank, Phoenix rods and forged solid skirt 3-ring pistons. Improved oil pump, lightened flywheel, alloy clutch cover, water pump and expanded water jackets. In addition, a 4-branch J3 exhaust manifold is fitted, twin fuel pumps, and removable kenlowe fan.
The engine is driven through an ENV gate-change manual gearbox and supercharged via a fully rebuilt Volumex blower (fully VSCC accepted) and an HV5 (1&5/8th) vintage SU carb, with wine bottle piston cover and large T3 float bowl (no Jaguar or TC carb parts on this!)
The lightweight body is all new ash, skinned in alloy by Steve Gilbert, and fitted out to the highest standard with the extra deluxe gauges, correct engine-turned dashboad, full windscreen, original (and very rare) ROTAX K624/2 headlamps with fitted stoneguards, areoscreens and a bonnet belt. Even the original Lucas TF201A tail light and the ORIGINAL wire sprung wiper system are in place! Amazing. What more can you want?
This truely superb rebuild is finished in the proper 2-tone cellulose red paints, with contrasting Collingburn dark red leather seating & trim, matching red wool carpets and a full set of black double duck weather equipment. An immaculate motor car.
Needless to say this restoration cost a fortune, and it didn't come cheap, but for those that view it, their time will not have been wasted; it will give real pride of ownership, proper performance and a magnificent addition to any collection......but remember, they are all better for being used.
