Description

1961 Daimler SP 250

Offering for sale a 1961 Daimler SP250 (Dart) Restored by The Guild in 2001.
In 1958 British Daimler unveiled its newest sports car for the American market at the New York Auto Show. It was originally named The Dart but this name conflicted with the Chryslers trademarked name so Daimler renamed it the SP250. This car was way ahead of its time offering all wheel disc and independent suspension, all fiberglass body design and a Daimler 2.5 liter Hemi V-8 engine. The engine is mated to a borg-warner manual overdrive gearbox the likes of the Jaguar E-Type and into the 60's when this particular car was made the E-Type would have been the only British car that could have kept up to it. Production numbers were low, just north of 2,600 examples made from 1959 - 1964 making this a super rare car.
This particular SP250 had a full restoration done by The Guild in 2001. The car has seen very few miles since then and has mostly been kept in storage by its owner. It still runs and drives like it was restored yesterday. The sound of the 2.5 liter Hemi and the unbelievable torque paired with the gearing makes for a perfect 10 on the scale for what you want in a sports car. Even in fourth gear if you press down on the accelerator you are pressed firmly into those lambskin leather seats.
Even though there is no power steering, the handling of the SP250 is characteristic of a 1960's british sports car. Its weight, power, low center of gravity and independent suspension makes up quite well for the lack of power steering.
After driving this car it will become clear to you that the SP250 is not a car that can simply be driven, with the sounds, smells, looks and touches that go with being behind the wheel of this car, it must be experienced.
