25/30 3pos Drophead Coupe GRM3965,000.00 GBP
Description
Chassis NR GRM39
Bodied in the early 1980s by Plunkett, remaining with the same family until 2015, when last sold by us. Stylish car, sleek in design, with attractive narrow windscreen and low-folding roof. Sturdily built, desirable in configuration and in good order, looking very smart. Since last with us, the car has been treated to some improvements, including a new hood, re-positioning of the rear-mounted spare wheel and a set of 'Ace' wheel discs, all of which we think really improve the appearance. Comes with the original, desirable (lucky number 7) registration number. Running well, fitted with a recent stainless steel exhaust system and offered prepared and MoT tested.
Chassis No. GRM39 Reg No. EGX 7.
Snippets: Royal Doulton Majolica & Treason
GRM39 was delivered to D. Stewart Fraser of Moons Motors, Dorset House, Marylebone Rd in London – Dorset House had been designed in 1935 by the architect T. P. Bennett whose works included Saville Theatre & the Doulton HQ in Lambeth. The Art Deco facade on Doulton House was made from majolica by Royal Doulton, the frieze was removed is now displayed in the V & A Museum. Dorset House has a surprising connection with Rolls-Royce - the sculptures on either side of the entrance were designed & carved by Eric Gill who had designed the famous Rolls-Royce typeface. The 2nd owner of GRM39 was Sir Gerald Osborne Slade (1891/1962) of Beckenham who was a prominent lawyer – in 1945 Sir Slade defended two wartime traitors - William Joyce (Lord Haw Haw) and John Amery – both were convicted & later executed for treason. Later owners of GRM39 included E. R. Ives a scion of the prominent Ives merchant family of Norwich – in the 1700s Catton Hall was acquired by the Ives family who commissioned Humphrey Repton to landscape the garden – Repton produced designs for Harewood House, East India Company College, Longleat, Woburn and Tatton Park to name a few. Shortly after WWII GRM39 was with Flt Lt Francis James Sugg who was stationed at RAF Daws Hill which during WWII was home to American Military Forces.
