S1 H J Mulliner Flying Spur 4 dr Sports Saloon BC28FM175,000.00 GBP
Description
A lovely example of a rare and sought-after coachwork design, all the better for being a late S1 from the last year of production, incorporating the whole range of modifications introduced during the model’s four year run. Some say that a late S1 is the most desirable of the whole 'S' series production. Recently beautifully re-finished in a deep shade of inky blue, with top quality chrome plating, and the interior is equally lovely, with Parchment leather, piped blue and superb veneers, carpets and headlining. A modern (relatively) Pioneer sound system with CD changer in the boot has been fitted, harmonising surprisingly well visually with the instrument panel. Air conditioning is also installed. Following a period in the Isle of Man, the car is now back in the UK, shortly to have its original registration number reinstated. Sound, sharp, very smart and correct, newly MoT tested, driving very nicely on its radial tyres and ready for its next life chapter.
Chassis No. BC28FM Reg. No. DSX 298
Snippets: SOE Agent & Teacher’s Distillery
BC28FM spent its first 4 years with Cyril Thomas Gibson Risch Miller (1899/1976) a grandson of T. R. Miller (the family came from Germany during the reign of George III & amended their name from Rischmiller) a ship owner & founder of UK Mutual Steam Ship Protection Association. During WWII Cyril Miller, a maritime barrister & pilot, joined the Special Operations Executive with the role of flying agents into Europe and also interrogating them on their return as his legal training “enabled him to weigh evidence and form a conclusion.............. if they were telling the truth” thereby weeding out any double agents! By 1963 B28FM was with W. A. Bergius of Helensburgh. In 1876 Walter Carl Bergius married Agnes Teacher, daughter of William Teacher (founder of Teacher’s Whisky) and in 1884 Walter Bergius registered the brand name Teacher’s Highland Cream with offices being opened in England. Following generations of Bergius became involved in the family firm and in 1976 the board consisted of a great-grandson and 4 great-great-grandsons! Whilst researching the Individual members of the family it would appear that the family also produced Doctors, Submariners, Engineers and Inventors. In the 1920s William Manera Bergius (1877/1950) invented the Flanged Cork which eliminated the need for a corkscrew and the adverts had the slogan “Bury the Corkscrew”; Iain Somerled Bergius (1916/57) trained as doctor and during WWII served with RNVR & in 1945 went to Hong Kong with the liberation fleet and organised an emergency hospital on his vessel; after being demobilised he returned to Hong Kong with his family and joined the firm of Dr. Anderson & Partners. Walter Macdonald Bergius (1881/1949) was a keen engineer and with his brother William built a small dinghy “Dodo” which is now in the Scottish Maritime Museum & in 1904 Walter went on to develop the Kelvin marine engine which is still at the forefront of diesel engines today. During WWII Adam Kennedy Bergius served with the Navy and in 1945 he & his colleague Sub Lt Ken Briggs (an Aussie) disabled the communication cable laid at the bottom of the Mekong Delta, Saigon which was used to carried signals between the Japanese forces in Vietnam and Hong Kong. “Operation Sabre” was a success with Adam & Ken both being awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for their daring deed.
